Conversation Cafés

If you’re looking for a place to practise your English and get to know some local people, then here are some options around the city.

Alma Church, Clifton

Alma Church invites you to a Conversation Café! Free tea and coffee and a chance to practise your English. No need to book, just turn up. You can come every week or when it suits you.

Every Monday 1.30-3pm in Alma Church Hall, Clifton.

Kensington Baptist Church, Easton

Emmanuel City Centre

Emmanuel Church provide free informal English classes for all levels, led by a group of volunteer English teachers, Tuesdays 7.30-9pm.

Classes are followed by a chance to practise your spoken English with some friendly locals with a cup of tea. There's also a chance to find out more about the Christian faith. We'd love to meet you - everyone is welcome!

We meet online the first week of every month, but face-to-face every other week at: Emmanuel Meeting House, Narrow Lewins Mead, Bristol BS1 2NN

Join Kensington Baptist Church’s community café (not specifically for internationals)! This runs every Saturday, 12-2pm. They invite community members and passers by including the homeless for drinks, and simple toasties and other food. It’s a space for chatting, meeting local people plus friendship building. This is also a chance to help others and serve the community.

There are various activities at community café. On different weeks there will be face painting, live music and more!
