Christmas celebration!
Christmas is the UK’s biggest celebration. Come and enjoy a traditional meal with all the ‘trimmings’ (extra little bits like bread sauce, sprouts, gravy and stuffing) as well as traditional puddings, chocolates and non-alcoholic mulled wine. You might catch sight of Santa, and you’ll learn why Christmas is so special for Christians. Let’s celebrate together!
We want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and hope that you have enjoyed your time in Bristol so far.

Thanksgiving Meal
Join us for Thanksgiving dinner at Alma church!
An invitation from Christian Union about having a free Thanksgiving dinner together at Alma church! As we know, it is a very important festival from U.S.. If you are interested, please sign up ASAP!
Meet us here at BISC at 6:15pm and then we’ll walk to there. It’s very close to BISC. But if you want to meet us at Alma church at 6:30pm, please feel free to! :)
Sunday Lunch at St. Matt’s Church
Join us for a free lunch at a local church!
We are going to visit St. Matthew’s Church in Cotham for a special lunch for internationals. This is a great chance to chat to people about Bristol, church and living in the UK. There are lots of students at this church, and everyone will want to welcome you to Bristol!
They will have a relaxing service to make some crafts, reflections and singing together, starting from 10:30am. A Tea & coffee time follows by it. The meal will happen after that.
It’s a great and chill way to see a local church culture and talk to local people.
We’ll meet at BISC at 10am and then go to the church together.(Not far from BISC)
Of course we are happy to meet you at 10:30am there if you want to go there first. :) Just let us know when you sign up.

✨ Friday Friendship Café: Volunteer Night!
This Friday (21 Nov.), a group of BISC students will be volunteering at North Bristol Food Bank, helping with simple but meaningful tasks like sorting food parcels and organising supplies. It’s a small act, but it makes a big difference — both for the food bank and for the people who need.
What is a Food Bank?
A food bank is a charity that provides free food to people who are struggling financially. Even though the UK is a developed country, millions of people still face food insecurity — meaning they don’t always have enough to eat. After COVID-19, the situation became even harder for many families due to rising living costs and job instability.
North Bristol Food Bank, like BISC, is a Christian charity. It exists to serve people in need with compassion and dignity, offering practical help and hope.
Why are we going?
At BISC, we know what it’s like to feel far from home, to face challenges, and to need support. Many of us have received love and care through this community — and now we have the chance to share that love with others.
Even though we may come from different backgrounds, we can still show kindness and stand with those who are struggling. This is a way to give back, to learn, and to be part of something bigger than ourselves.

💛 Kintsugi Hope Wellbeing Exploration — Finding Beauty in Brokenness
Living in a new country can be exciting — but it can also bring pressure, loneliness, and moments of self-doubt.
At BISC, we understand that studying abroad isn’t always easy. That’s why, together with Kintsugi Hope, we’re hosting a free 6-week Wellbeing Exploration Course — a safe, open space for international students to pause, reflect, and find hope again.
“Our cracks do not make us less — they tell our story.
Like gold in Kintsugi pottery, love can fill the broken places with hope.”

🌿 What is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, turning cracks into part of its beauty.
It reminds us that even when life feels fractured, healing and growth can make us stronger — and more beautiful — than before.
In this journey, we’ll explore what wellbeing really means & topics like anxiety, loneliness, self-worth, and resilience and how to embrace every part of ourselves, including the imperfect ones.
Through conversation, reflection, and gentle activities, we’ll discover that our stories — even the painful parts — still carry worth, hope, and purpose. Just come as you are :)
Trip to Wells (with optional visit to Bishop’s Palace market!)
Join us on a day trip to the historic city of Wells. The bus leaves at 10.36am, so make sure you’re at the station by 10:20am and our volunteers also need a bit time to check you in :)
Wells is a small, traditional city near to Bristol. It's full of old architecture, and a beautiful cathedral. If you want, you can come with us to the Bishop's palace (fee £8) where there’s a special market with artists selling their wares! The whole city is a very historic place, and well worth a visit.
Our trip is free, but you'll need to bring money for transport and anything that you want to buy / Bishop's Palace entry. It will take around an hour on the bus. You can buy your ticket on the bus and it will cost around £4.

Light Party
Instead of Halloween👻, we’re celebrating LIGHT! 🌟
Join us this 31st Oct. Friday at 5:30 PM for a cozy and creative night at BISC!
We’ll have a professional artist leading some fun craft activities, and together we’ll explore the meaning of “light” from different perspectives. 🎨💫
🍽️ Simple food and snacks will be provided — just bring your creativity and good vibes!

Friday Friendship Cafe - Physical & Board Games Night
🎲 Join our Friday Friendship Cafe for an evening of interactive physical games & classic board games – plus simple hot food to warm you up, all for just £2!

Games are a great way to take your mind off lectures, meet new people and have fun. We’ll provide some simple hot food + drinks and, of course, plenty of games to enjoy together! This is different from the last time of the board games night! We’ll be also having some inside physical activities. Let’s work and move together!

If you have questions, please bring them here and also enjoy a cup of bubble tea. It is a milky tea with tapioca balls at the bottom. Usually the tapioca are cooked in brown sugar, which gives the drink its sweetness. You can find bubble tea all around the world, now, but none so fresh as just cooked up in the BISC kitchen! Come and try it.

Ice-cream Night
Who loves ice-cream?! Join us as we head to one of Bristol’s finest ice cream parlours and sample the different flavours. Come with us and you’ll get a 10% discount. This ice-cream parlour has won so many awards. It’s an independent, family-run business straight from Italy. Come and enjoy this Italian speciality, make new friends and spend an evening together with the perfect treat.

Tickets are free, but we’ll each buy our own ice-cream on the night. Please book so that we know you’re coming. Meet at BISC at 5.30pm - we will then walk together to Panunzio’s Kitchen Gelati Italiani on Cotham Hill.

Free Lunch and Walk at Severn Beach Church
We are going to Severn Beach - the river border between England and Wales - for a free lunch and walk! You can eat and chat to welcoming and friendly people. After lunch, there's a chance to go on a walk by the estuary. (As long as it's not stormy!) We can look across to Wales there.
We are going to take the train at 10am, so we need to meet at 9.45am! We will join the church service before the lunch.
You will need to pay for your own train ticket, but it will be around £2.50.
Please remember to bring sensible shoes and a coat. It might get a bit windy!

Gardening day at BISC!
Come to BISC anytime between 10-4pm to help us in our beautiful garden! We're planning to build some bug hotels, chop back plants, clear some ground for a prayer space and have a good time together. You don't need any experience and we'll provide all the tools. It’s a great chance to spend time together and be out in nature.
You can come anytime between 10-4pm, and there will be lunch provided if you're with us midday.
Farewell BBQ
Join us 12-2pm for the last event of this academic year. If you’re going home, this is the perfect opportunity to come into BISC and say goodbye. We’ve met so many amazing people this year! It’s been a privilege to get to know you all, and we’d love to see you one last time if you’re leaving Bristol.
We’re going to be having a BBQ lunch and enjoying it out in the garden. Come along for the last BISC meal until September!

Trip to Clevedon
Join us on a trip to the nearby town of Clevedon!
Clevedon is on the river between England and Wales. It has a long Victorian pier which you can walk down to see across the channel. The town used to be a seaside resort in the Victorian period (around 200 years ago) and is well worth a visit.
Clevedon has easy links to Bristol and is a fun day trip! Our trip will be free, but you'll need to bring money for transport and any food that you want to buy.
We'll be meeting at 10.35 at Bay 13, Bristol Bus Station. The bus leaves at 10.45am so don't be late!

Pizza & Painting Night
Join us for a relaxing evening of pizza and painting. We will provide everything you need!
There will be a variety of pizzas, which we’ll eat together as we chat. Jancis will show you how to paint watercolour pictures. You can paint postcards to send to your friends or you can just paint pictures which you want to keep.
Painting is a great way to relax and we know that you’re working hard for your exams. Take a break from revising to hang out with friends and do something completely different!

Easter Drama
We are going to Christchurch Clifton to watch the story of Easter, performed by members of the church. This is a free event, but you must book your place.
It is a 90-minute, immersive retelling of Jesus's life. Watch an amazing theatre performance where the events unfold around you—a story of miracles, teachings, betrayal, and ultimate sacrifice. You will learn why Easter is such an important celebration.
We will be sitting as a BISC group together so don't worry if you don't understand everything. Our team can explain!

Easter Fun Night
We are hosting an evening of Easter traditions - food, games and crafts!
There will be a chocolate Egg hunt in the BISC garden, classic egg pies (quiches) to eat, and a traditional craft - egg painting. Everyone can make this classic decoration and design it in your own way.
Eggs are always in the shops at Easter time - they are a symbol of new life and hope. Come and celebrate that with us on Friday 28th March, 5pm.

Alma Church are hosting a free lunch!
Come with us to meet some welcoming and friendly people and to eat some delicious food. After lunch, there's a chance to go on a walk in the local park together. (As long as it's not stormy!)
If you're interested in joining the Sunday service and meeting local families first, come to the church at 10.30am.
If you just want to join the lunch and walk, that's fine - come at 12pm!

Inspiring Women
Come and join us for an evening meal to celebrate inspiring women from across the world, through history, and in our own lives. This event is open to women and men, celebrating International Women's Day.
Bring with you an example of a women who inspires you- a singer, a global leader, a women in history or even your grandmother. Be ready to share their inspiring story with us, through a photograph, a book, an online profile; let's celebrate women together and be inspired!

Trip to Bath
Join us on a trip to the nearby city of Bath. (Bus fare only)
Bath is a famous British city. It was named 'Bath' because of its natural hot springs. There's lots of old architecture (even from Roman times!) so it's a popular place for movies to be filmed. Some streets haven't really changed for over 200 years so it's a great place to take photos. There is a Jane Austen museum, the Roman Baths, an abbey, lots of independent shops and much more! Our volunteers, Kim and Chris, will take you on a walking tour when you get there.
It takes less than an hour on the bus and a return student ticket should cost less than £5.
Our ticket will be free, but you'll need to bring money for transport and any food that you want to buy.
